There was a line outside and a man not letting people in to prevent over-crowding, which must have
annoyed some, but made getting in all the more special.

Inside a band, whom I am sure were someone I should have heard of, were deafening the artistos.
The walls were covered in mainly paintings of bands and John Peel. I not being a Peeler have no
strong feeling about Peel's demise, but he seemed to inspire devotion across a range of types, from
punksters to well heeled farmers listening to the wireless.

Pye's collaborations with other artists were the most distinct element in the show. They have a strong
graphic look, humorous phrases, and the odd combination of tight painting by his friends andPye's
faux-naive style. The rest of the work struggled to sock me in the visual cortex. The usual problem of
thematic shows, where control of output is disproportionate to numbers of contributors. Small works
often crowd each other out.

A magazine with an attractive new Harry Pye and friends logo added to a feeling that HP may at last
be selling out.
