From: Remi Category: Books Date: 27 October 2006 Time: 07:46 AM Review: My third lesson of German, it was actually the fourth but I had last week on holiday in Jersey, feeding the cows and killing the fish. And eating lobsters, but that's another kettle of fish as they say in New York. We have now started the second chapter, how much longer til I can read Messrs. Kafka and Mann in their own silver-tipped tongues? I'm still enthralled by all the new-ness and other worldiness of the whole enterprise. I can't see it fizzling out. I believe. Learnt that 95% of verbs are regular, but I find that hard to believe, a marketing ploy no less. Wondered why we learn languages. To speak to other people, stoopid. I know that, but not in that sense, just mused over the strangeness of speaking a different tongue. I might not get to use it much, what is the worth of it all? Shouldn't I do something else instead?
