From: EB Category: Exhibitions Date: 12 October 2006 Time: 12:49 PM Review: http://www.year06.co.uk/ London doesn't have enough art fairs right now, so here's another one. Will this madness ever end? I had a walk around it today. More manageable size than the other two, and easier to get to. Same old same old though. All this art fair stuff depresses me so much. Everybody's trying to make money and artists are still poor. I also feel sorry for London galleries in the non-Frieze fairs who haven't got it pat and are trying to break even. Everything is riding on this. Hundreds of artists around the world who are not millionaires have put all their money into getting their artworks looking just right, often on promises of sales. Their interest off their debt goes to the stocks and shares people who are in the power to decide whether or not to buy their art. Hundreds walk past and slag the whole thing off, because it deserves to be slagged off, because its not good, because its done in a rush and on a shoe string and the context is naff and wrong. I'm going to start a proper art fair, there'll be a helter skelter and a big wheel. I'll sell pink and purple candy floss on sticks. I'll invite all my friends and we'll have a good time. It'll be a fun art fair!
