I once stopped in nearly every one all the way down from scotland in an attempt to eat blueberry pancakes - they used to be sold in Little Chefs (actually not often found in service stations), it was interesting to see them at various times of night and in the very early morning, slowly closing and reopening. Northern and Southern service stations have subtle and interesting differences. I find them quite relaxing places to have coffee since they have a child play area, and recently I ventured out in to the play ground - padded with wood chips - where a bruised mother sat surrounded by 5 small children (quite a number in this day and age). I pondered on her bruised arm, and didn't want to think what I thought, even though it is probably true that she was beaten the fact that she exposed her bruises gave me hope that perhaps it was an accident. Great places full of sullen workers, and crappy food. Well done to M and S for selling cold sandwhiches, remember to put on a coat before you go in coz its chilly in there.
