From: M. Trebor Category: Books Date: 12 September 2006 Time: 06:26 AM Review: A surreal poetry book has just been published as a pdf for online reading. The 30 page poetry book titled ‘lastnightomorrowmorning’ was re-released this week. ‘lastnightomorrowmorning’ is a collection of surreal poetry and automatic writings by the cracked artist: Mr Derry. Mr Derry's poems could be classed or pigeon-holed like writers such as: Beckett, Burroughs to musicians like Barrett, Anderson or Beefheart. Derry has a creative play with words, perhaps the artist is going through a dark night of the soul? I found the poem ‘fish’ quiet amusing to say the least, it has a charm that set up a scene of a northern shipping village. I quote “My eye captains where’s that Bird who ate that fish?” or the line from ‘Two Fragments’ “Perennial people smell pungent” it has a charm of flowery old people in tea cafes in Sussex. It maybe brilliant or utter nonsense at present I cannot decide. Some of the poetry is non-linear and perhaps a little hard to read. Extract from lastnightomorrowmorning BLACK DOG Shouting against the wind I hear nothing only noise Sitting up screaming I crawl Crawl into a sitting mood Darkness falls on the cloudy mind Terror transcends reason Bed sheets wrapping around body Hand in head, I shiver at the thoughts Bleak night fever, can’t deliver The next day of social activity Hair raising thoughts images Of the absurd, skin I alive Can’t confront the darkness Evil that lurks in the cells of time Shout inside and sink into fear Eyes stark naked and lost Black holes, hand shaking Stinking headache, I am lost Never happy even though I have everything Should stop, stop, thinking ©mrderry2006 ‘’lastnightomorrowmorning’ can be obtained through his website as a free pdf at: Mr Derry: The Cracked Artist: http://www.geocities.com/surrealart05/lastnightomorrowmorning.html
