Review:

I thought the private view of the Art Council show was great. I was glad that I saw the paintings of
Lucian Freud, Patrick Caulfield, Bridget Riley and others that were on display. It's true, there was a
long quee, but I didn't mind. I went to look at the water fountain and talked to various friends untill the
quee went down. Patrick Brill and Adam Dant were both doing turns (Patrick Brill a.k.a Bob &
Roberta Smith was playing piano and singing to those in the quee and Adam Dant a.k.a. Donald
Parsnips was greeting people as they came in, asking for anecdotes and giving people free
drawings). Neither artist was making work they would like to be judged on for the rest of their life. And
maybe, if you had never come across either chap before you wouldn't be amazed by their efforts, but I
was glad they were there. The free vegetarian pie was very much appreciated as was the 4 glasses
of rum. I spoke to lots of interesting people. I didn't try to make new friends or net work or nob my hob,
I just talked to old friends I hadn't seen for a while. I liked being in the open air and I was delighted by
the fireworks. It was a party for artists. I thought the organisers had done very well indeed. My reaction
to the evening was the opposite of the previous reviewer - he wanted to kill himself but I went away
thinking, life is good. C'est la vie.
