From: bookie Category: Books Date: 08 September 2006 Time: 07:22 AM Review: I've read great Bellow and shit Bellow, and this one, kooky 70s 80s race innercity wars plot besides ( I can't stand the word Negro) is pretty damn good. His prose is startling good, a well chosen adjective lighting up the mind of the reader to think about what is actually being talked about. A brilliantly light touch at moving between the inner and outer worlds. A dense book this is, not long, but you want to savour the precision of consciousness expressed. Better than Updike, Roth. Not Proust.
