Very strange, I looked it up on http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/ and I'm sure it said 1990, I remember looking at the numbers and their position on the screen (but black not blue), but now it's reverted back to 1986. In terms of personal chronology it fits better, I was a bit past my girlie popcorn sleep-overs phase by 1990. In terms of critique, it sets this film more firmly as an innovative forerunner to 1990s teen comedies.
