Review:

With clarity he describes the impossibility of analysing love, how it breaks down under scrutiny, actions and words take on
the meaning we attribute them rather than having any meaning in themselves. Happiness is not something we can know,
only something we can realize later, and love is "precious only when it begins to run short". The reader can never know
what is really going on in the mind of the narrators wife, as in life, we can only guess and analyse, which makes it an
effective portrayal of the difficulties of relationships.
