I don't think conflict of interest is such a terribly silly and quaint bit good ol' manners idea which never was. To not be corrupt, to now allow judgement to be affected by self-interest, is difficult, unrealistic, and well worth pursuing. Never let the cynics grind you down so that you defend their dirty ways as natural and unavoidable.
