Did MW really need to make this film?, I hope that question will be answered with the advantage of time/hindsight. A director with such unique abilities showed a fascinating insight to Hardy's hard bitten British romanticism, then taking Hardy to USA - and from there on reworking the great Atlantic Schism almost with each film since, like Elvis Costello, wisdom can prove to be a hindrance in the contemporary fiscal atmosphere of ShowBizZ, one of the problems with keeping the faith is people thinking that what is for sale is what their going to buy.
