The Head of painting at RCA was among the panelists in this question time style event. There was generally a lot of common sense spoken really, with the occasional enlightened comment. The general gist I got was was : Don't be in a rush to develop your work. How pushy ? Dont get het up about cold calling galleries - develop dialogue somehow See where you fit in being attached to a gallery Limit/target amount of competitions you go for that require entry fee, be a good administrator re going for arts council grants etc - check out Market matters - Arts council Go to the private views, find the art you like, get on mailing lists, be professional in the approach of networking; (ie factor in this as valuable time spent) Be organised for portfolio career Live and be in your own film!
