Over 600 years ago they were making fantastic sculptures, oddly they had no problem with realism when they wanted, and made tremendous stools which eat themselves. Go see for sheer form and power. In one magical moment i saw a 700 year old head superimposed onto a veiled brown skinned woman looking at a glass cased scultpure.
